LG’s First Windows Phone 7 Presented

A few days ago, the amazing city Hong Kong was the host of the most expected event in China. We are talking about the Chinese New Year event, which can be described as the best place for a lot of companies to present their new products.

It seems like the boys were very impressed by an LG handset called Windows Phone 7. The device is the first one in its series and it`s expected to hit Hong Kong shelves sometimes before the ”holidays” according to Mr. Ballmer.

Unfortunately the boys didn`t manage to get more information about the device, but I`m pretty sure that we gonna find out a lot more about it very, very soon.

Rumors on RIM’s new BlackBerry slider

This isn’t confirmed, but with RIM rumored to be exploring sliding-QWERTY devices for a pretty long time, one of our BlackBerry connects dropped some info on us and we wanted it to share it. Here’s what we know:
It’s a portrait-oriented slider. While most people assume a device with slideout keyboard would end up being something like HTC’s devices, we’ve been told this particular handset is more like the Palm Pre in terms of layout.

The phone will run BlackBerry OS 6.0

The rumored device will 100% support Wi-Fi 802.11n

The resolution unfortunately has not improved, it is still 360×480.

No word on if this will have a touch screen, but we’d assume so, and our source alluded to this possibly being what the rumored BlackBerry Magnum/Dakota evolved into. Not saying there won’t be a Bold-like device with touchscreen, optical trackpad, and physical keyboard, but this might be released first.

If it does have a touch screen, this could in fact be the mythical BlackBerry Storm slider — picture a Storm 9520 with a slide up Bold-esque keyboard.

The phone will not be a Verizon exclusive — it’s supposed to be a GSM/HSPA device.

That’s all we’ve got for now, folks. What are you thinking? Does this remotely interest you, or could you care less about the hardware at this point and just hope that RIM can make some pretty big strides as far as their OS is concerned?

Bada-powered S8500 Wave from Samsung

Samsung launched its new S8500 Wave phone during Mobile World Congress. The Wave is the first phone to run on Samsung’s new “bada” operating system, so we met up with Samsung to get a look for ourselves.

The S8500 Wave, which runs Samsung’s custom TouchWiz 3.0 user interface, measures 118mm x 56mm x 10.9mm (4.6in x 2.2in x .42in) and has a 3.3-inch “Super” AMOLED display. The Wave is powered by a 1GHz processor and is the first device to offer both Bluetooth 3.0 and 802.11n WiFi support. aGPS, a 5 megapixel camera, and a choice between 2GB or 8GB of storage top off the features of the Wave.

Thanks to its aluminum body, the Samsung Wave feels quite nice in the hand. The large “Super” AMOLED display is indeed quite super, putting out crazy bright colors that make it hard to notice that the rest of the device is fairly plain looking. The capacitive touchscreen surface on the display is very, very sensitive – one of the best we’ve used.

As to what Samsung’s bada OS is offering that other platforms are not, we’ll just have to wait until we get a proper review device to find out, it seems. On the surface, bada appears to be little more than a further extension of Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface. Though a prettier and seemingly more usable one.

The Samsung S8500 Wave will be available globally in April 2010.
