South Korean mobile handset maker LG Electronics Inc.’s two new smartphone models equipped with Microsoft Corp.’s soon-to-be launched operating system were unveiled before their official launches.
The Dutch branch of Microsoft recently released through Internet social networking service Twitter a photo of the new handset named “Optimus 7,” which is equipped with a full touch screen and a 3.8-inch liquid crystal display panel, industry sources said.
The new handset is powered by “Windows Phone 7,” a new smartphone operating system to be made public in October by Microsoft. LG, the No. 3 handset maker in the world, plans to officially launch the new product in the same month in Europe.
The specifics of a different new smartphone model, which the South Korean handset maker aims to launch in the U.S. in November, was also recently released by a few IT-focused media.
According to their reports, the new model, tentatively called “Pacific,” has a 3.5-inch display panel and full-keyboard input buttons and will be carried by AT&T.
“It is difficult to release specifics of the new phones now as we are in discussions with mobile communication firms and Microsoft over the launch, but LG Electronics is developing them with a goal to lead the market for Window Phone 7-based smartphones,” a company official said.
