Nokia to Launch LTE Phone in February?

File this under rumor and speculation, but it looks like Nokia is getting ready to introduce an LTE device at the Mobile World Congress trade show in February.
Nokia’s official blog, Nokia Conversations, recently hosted two posts:“Why You Want LTE” and “From 1G to 4G.” Both posts appeared during the CES trade show, when various manufacturers—but not Nokia—delivered LTE phones for Verizon Wireless’s new network.
Nokia’s absence from the Verizon announcements was expected. Verizon’s 3G network is CDMA, and Nokia steadfastly refuses to produce any 3G CDMA smartphones. Nokia also makes LTE base stations, but it’s pretty funny to post “Why You Want LTE” and not have any LTE to deliver to consumers.
Nokia spokeswoman Anna Martin was noncommital. “As for LTE, it is an important technology which Nokia is firmly committed to, but at this point we haven’t announced any further details or plans,” she said.
Martin’s statement aside, I’ve heard from sources within Nokia that they’re planning a pretty big presence at MWC this year. Along with LTE smartphones, we’re expecting to hear more about MeeGo, Nokia’s high-end smartphone OS. Other major announcements will probably come from Samsung, which is anticipated to announce dual-core phones and tablets, and Sony Ericsson, which is expected to announce the “PlayStation Phone.”
We’ll be there starting February 13th with full coverage.
