Dell’s new smart phones in India

Aiming to enhance its presence in the smartphone segment, Dell unveiled two new phone products in its ‘mobility range’ based on Android and Windows Phone 7 operating systems.

Venue and Venue Pro -respectively priced at Rs 29,901 and Rs 34,901- would be targeted at young professionals who often juggle with work, on-the-go entertainment and social networking on a single device, said Dell India’s Executive Director and General Manager for consumer and SMB Mahesh Bhalla.

With Android 2.2 as OS, Venue comes with a 4.1 inch “high-contrast and scratch-proof” screen. It has 8 megapixel camera for video capturing and sharing, while also having provisions for business apps with support for ActiveSync and QuickOffice.

Being Dell’s first Windows Phone 7 smartphone, Venue Pro has 4.1 inch AMOLED touch display, 5 megapixel camera and high-speed 3.5 G wireless along with cloud based services packing-in productivity, entertainment and social networking on the same device. The phone also has a vertically sliding qwerty keyboard.

“Venue blends professional and trendy features,” Bhalla said, while addressing the press conference to unveil the new devices on Thursday at Bangalore Fashion Week, where Dell also announced it would have Aircel as its preferred partner for the new phones.

Aircel’s COO Gurdeep Singh, speaking at the conference, said buyers of Venue and Venue Pro with Aircel would get ‘goodies’ worth Rs 6000, including Rs 2,200 local talk time and 7000 free SMSs.

“Our special partnership with Dell is one more way of reaching out to the country’s young professionals,” Singh said, adding that Aircel would rollout its 3G services before ICC World Cup.
