New mobile phones announcements

LG Optimus 2x has been shown at Thailand Mobile Expo 2011

The world’s first dual-core phone, the LG Optimus 2x, is being showcased this weekend at the Thailand Mobile Expo in Bangkok. In a special booth dedicated to the smartphone, consumers can experience the video performance of the handset on large HD monitors.

Though customers may try out the new phone, it is not yet for sale. An LG representative said the Optimus 2x will go on sale in Thailand in two to three months but would not provide details on the price. Speculators say the phone will be priced around 24,000 baht (about $800 USD). The phone has already been released in South Korea, no word yet on a US release date.

The LG Optimus 2x caused a stir late last year when details emerged on the first smartphone to have two processors. The extra processing power allows the phone to record full 1080p HD smoothly with its 8 megapixel camera and features an HDMI port. The Optimus 2x should be able to handle multitasking better than other single-core smartphones. The handset was released in South Korea running Android 2.2, but the Korean carrier the phone was launched under says customers will be able to upgrade to 2.3 later on.

The Thailand Mobile Expo 2011 is a four day event starting on Feburary 3rd and ending on Sunday the 6th where mobile device manufacturers and carriers unveil their latest offerings. 630,000 visitors turned out for last year’s event and more are expected this year due to the improving economy and growing mobile market.
