LG Cookie Plus Coming To TELUS
August 14th, 2010 by admin in LG
Canadian carrier TELUS will be getting a new phone. The LG Cookie Plus will be the next phone in line after the mildly successful first LG Cookie. The Cookie is a modest multimedia phone with a 3-inch touchscreen display and some social networking features.
Internal documents received by Canadian mobile phone site MobileSyrup reveal that the phone will cost just $29.99 on a three-year deal (the norm in Canada). Since phones like these are popular with the youngsters, we could see a lot of Canadian young people getting these new phones as a back-to-school gift or something.
As mentioned, it has a 3-inch screen with a resolution of 240×400. It offers a 3MP camera and a MP3 player. Regarding software, it looks like its running Android (but it’s not). It’s actually running LG’s LiveSquare stuff, which has connectivity with Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. This stuff should be enough to help you stay in touch with your friends.
This is somewhat of a leak, since TELUS hasn’t announced or listed the phone officially yet. But – according to the Canadian’s in the know, it should be coming soon.
LG T325 touchscreen phone shows up
July 31st, 2010 by admin in LG
The Bluetooth SIG has outed an unassuming LG phone, the T325. This looks like it’s a featurephone and definitely packs a touchscreen of unknown size (yet it appears to be somewhere in the 2.8″-3.2″ range). It also has 3G and Bluetooth.
It will be launching in Europe at some point in August and may very well be the newest member of LG’s Cookie range of low-end touchscreen featurephones.
An official announcement has to come soon. Although LG would better start working more on smartphones than such featurephones if they want their mobile division to turn its current situation around and go back to actually making a profit.
LG to release several Windows Phone 7 handsets in 2010
July 28th, 2010 by admin in LG
Once again an LG representative has confirmed that a Windows Phone 7-powered handset is on the way and due in September. That handset is expected to be called the Pacific. The company also said that more WP7 devices are coming before year’s end.
LG is the third largest cellphone maker, behind Nokia and Samsung. Its phone shipments are slowly increasing, but it has fallen into losses due to a lack of smartphones, which has allowed Apple, RIM and other companies to grow much faster. Most of LG’s efforts this past year have focused on Android with only small efforts spent on Windows Mobile.
That is obviously changing.
LG Aloha will come to Verizon this Summer
April 29th, 2010 by admin in LG
LG’s first Snapdragon Android phone will be hitting Verizon (NYSE: VZ) this Summer.
In case you don’t remember the LG Aloha, it has a full QWERTY keyboard, Snapdragon processor, Android 2.1, 5 megapixel camera with 720P HD video capture, and is WiFi N capable. The navigation ball, pad, whatever you wanna call it, looks misplaced and like a pain to use. It’s all pushed to the corner of the phone. Who knows, maybe LG got it right, but I know I like symmetry. This will be the first LG Android phone to hit the US, and it will be on Verizon, which is apparently the carrier to be on nowadays.
LG has made some solid devices in the past, but most of their devices are in the low to mid range area, never getting much into the smartphone arena. From what we know about the Aloha’s internals, it’s going to be one impressive high-end Android smartphone – the specs read like a dream. It may be no Droid Incredible, and nowhere near as sexy looking, but the Aloha looks like a solid effort from LG, and hopefully we’ll see more like this from them.
I can’t say I’m particularly excited about this phone. I’m sure it will be a great device, but I’ve been waiting for LG to blow us out of the water with a stunning high-end Android device. The Aloha, while powerful, looks sort of toy-like. HTC has been flowing LG out of the water recently, but hopefully the Aloha will be successful as LG’s first push into high-end Android devices. I don’t know what I’d do if their follow-up goes backwards to Eve status.
The Aloha adds one more Android device to Verizon’s growing Android portfolio. I’m wondering if they will let the Incredible push through the Summer along side the Aloha, or if they will release a new Droid phone. I’d say they will probably stay with the Incredible as the new flagship phone for the time being. Until Fall, at least.
LG GD880 Mini gets a UK release
April 29th, 2010 by admin in LG
Another mobile phone manufacturer has now jumped on the ‘mini’ bandwagon, LG have now released their new LG GD880 Mini which is officially the smallest handset available with a 3.2 inch touch screen.
The LG Mini phone is one of the most compact handsets on the market, it achieves this by slimming down the size of the bezel around the outside of the main touch screen, you will find that most phone models have a larger bezel to protect the screen when the phone is dropped but LG have reinforced this area which has allowed them to miniaturise the overall dimensions of the device making for an extremely pocket friendly handset.
The LG GD880 Mini offers 3.5G connectivity for internet browsing and email retrieval and a 5.0 mega pixel camera situated on the reverse of the phone which is the only thing present on the back housing which makes for a very minimalistic design in tandem with the front of the handset which does not even have any buttons!
Users can download at speeds of up to 7.2mbps thanks to HSDPA support, there is also WIFi for wireless internet connections, GPS for route finding and navigation, a comprehensive multimedia player, Bluetooth, FM radio and expandable memory for storing those pictures, music tracks, applications and files.
The new LG Mini also offers social networking integration with support for most major websites including Twitter and Facebook.
The new arena of ‘mini’ mobile phones is constantly expanding as manufacturers jump on this new trend, competitors include the Nokia N97 mini which was the first to coin this new name whilst others include the new HTC HD mini, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and sister phone; Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro.
There seems to be a real demand for these smaller smart phones and no doubt other manufacturers such as Samsung and Motorola mill soon follow suit with their own models. There is now an abundance of handsets featuring similar specifications to the new LG GD880 Mini with the Nokia X6, Sony Ericsson Vivaz, HTC Legend and Motorola Milestone all offering a 3.2 inch touch screen and 5.0 mega pixel camera although the Sony Vivaz is the exception offering a higher resolution 8 mega pixel lens.
The LG Mini is expected to be released as a pay monthly contract phone by multiple netyworks over the next few weeks as well as being made available as a Pay As You Go phone.
LG launches SU2300 and SU950/KU9500 Android smartphones in South Korea
April 28th, 2010 by admin in LG
LG has launched two new Android and Snapdragon powered smartphones – LG-SU2300 and LG-SU950/KU9500.
The first of the two is the same device as the LG2300 aka Aloha, which we knew is coming since the beginning of April. For some reason, the Korean company decided to use a different name for its domestic market. I assume that’s because their Korea-slated phones come with T-DMB mobile TV functionality.
The other phone, LG-SU950/KU9500, is an all-touchscreen device (SU2300 comes with a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard) with pretty much the same specs. We think this is the same phone as the LG P950, which again changed name to “appeal” to the Koreans.
Both LG-SU2300 and LG-SU950/KU9500 rock 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 3.5-inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, Dolby mobile surround sound, mentioned T-DMB mobile TV capability, WiFi and GPS. In addition, LG talks about their own service/app called “LG Air Sync” which should allow users to share and backup their data (contacts, media files and so on) with friends and their computers. Moreover, there’s the “Scan Search” augmented reality application pre-installed on both devices.
The LG SU2300 is set to start selling in Korean in May, when users will be able to get it with Android 1.6, only to update to version 2.1 later in July-August. As for the LG-SU950/KU9500, it will be released in June, sporting Android 2.1 right from the bat. KT and SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM) will get to carry both phones.
LG Optimus GT540 Goes To UK

LG Electronics, (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in mobile communications, today announced the launch of an Android-powered smartphone, LG Optimus (LG GT540), a handset offering an optimal environment for first-time smartphone users with easy and convenient mobile access.
LG Optimus allows users to enjoy diverse Android applications and automatic account synchronisation with all Google mobile services. LG Optimus also features enhanced social networking functions in a high-powered multimedia environment.
“LG Optimus is the ideal choice for early smartphone users who expect all the features of smartphones without the complexity,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “This is a device that was designed for regular people who want to jump into the smartphone experience but have been hesitant to do so because of the learning curve. By making LG Optimus more approachable, we hope more people will give smartphones a try.”
Optimal Convenience
LG Optimus delivers smartphone benefits in a convenient Google internet package. With an automatically synchronised Google account, users need to only log-in once to enjoy YouTube, Gmail, Gtalk, Google Maps and more. With easy access to more than 30,000 downloadable applications and games from the Android Market, users can easily customise and expand their LG Optimus experience.
The SN Manager offers integrated access to social networking sites in a convenient platform that can manage multiple accounts. LG’s dedicated Social Networking Client allows users to easily keep track of their Facebook, Twitter and Bebo accounts. Moreover, the Social Networking System (SNS) widgets provide real-time status updates directly to the home screen without having to access any other applications. The handset’s multitasking feature allows users to view updates from friends and access their social media sites while simultaneously searching the phone’s contact list.
The user interface is customisable for maximum convenience. The LG Optimus can be customised to show anywhere from three to seven home screens displaying frequently used applications, news and weather, among other information, depending on user preference. Additionally, the main menu can be personalised to include up to 10 editable categories for faster, easier navigation.
Optimal Excitement
LG Optimus includes high-powered entertainment features that make the phone extra fun to use. The advanced media player allows users to watch DivX and Xvid videos directly without separate encoding and browsing multimedia files is especially enjoyable with the 3D thumbnail gallery.
The phone’s 3MP camera supports geo-tagging, auto face-tagging and face-to-action technology to allow users to create and share multimedia content from the phone. The LG Optimus has a built-in video editor with storyboard function so that users can add music and text to videos directly on the phone.
LG Optimus boasts a distinctive design that is both sleek and soft and is available in black and silver. LG Launches Cookie Gig GM570 Touch Phone
April 26th, 2010 by admin in LG
We still aren’t sure we’ve warmed to the name “Cookie” for a phone line, but considering just how well the “Chocolate” line did for LG, we guess we can’t blame them for continuing the tradition of naming their handsets after treats. The latest from the company might just be a serious contender in the smartphone space, with the Cookie Gig boasting formidable specifications and a mean look that will taken seriously by more than just tweens.
It’s being marketed now at the European market, but as with everything, a positive reaction could mean a global release in the future. The new Cookie gig KM570 is a music-centric phone with 4GB of built-in memory, a 3″ WQVGA display, resistive touch-screen, 5MP camera and support for 7.2Mbps HSDPA mobile broadband. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack, a MicroSD card slot, Bluetooth and a plastic shell that probably looks better than it feels.
Pricing and specific release information has yet to be made public, but this phone is perfect for the $0-on-contract set who wants something more sophisticated than a boring feature phone. C’mon AT&T, give this one a look!
